High-Tech Solitude

I find it fascinating that the more connected we become to the world around us, the less connected we are to each other. Have you noticed this? We have cell phones to assure that we are never unreachable, the world-wide-web to keep us in contact the world over, and endless gadgets that supposedly save us valuable time. Yet we seem to understand each other less, parents still cannot relate to their children, and we are more alone. Remember the days when you left the house....and if the phone rang, it was not answered? Yet we still managed to have friends, plan get-togethers, and exchange affections. People communicated (it seems) more effectively. What happened?
